Service request
Service request means telling someone about the damaged glass and the work you need. Call with a chip, crack or broken window, even when you aren't sure which treatment fits. Explain which window is affected and whether the damage blocks your view. Observations help start the conversation; you don't need to measure the break before calling.
Vehicle identification
Vehicle identification means matching your car with the glass and procedures it needs. Give the year, make and model during the call. Mention features you know about, such as a heated windshield or a camera behind the mirror. A VIN is the vehicle identification number used to identify the vehicle more precisely. Your technician explains when that number is needed for the part selection. You can share the parking address in the same conversation.
Appointment and work location
Appointment means the time you and your technician agree on for the glass service. The call connects you with the person who discusses the job, sets the time with you and explains the work location. Mobile service means doing glass work where the vehicle is parked. Describe the driveway, apartment space or workplace lot, including access and shelter. Your technician explains the room needed around the car and how the weather affects the setup.
Scope and price
Scope is the written description of the work included in the job. One of our local auto glass partners reviews the glass, installation, required checks and price before work begins. Discuss any vehicle features that change the part selection. The description should distinguish glass work from any separate camera procedure. You can ask about an unfamiliar item during that discussion. Read more about the factors behind a quote in windshield replacement cost.
Repair or replacement
Windshield repair means treating suitable damage with a material that fills the break. Your technician examines the size, position and depth before recommending that approach. Replacement means removing damaged glass and fitting a new pane. A repair can leave a visible mark, so don't expect every chip to disappear. When replacement is needed, your technician explains the installation and the care instructions that apply afterward.
Adhesive and the waiting period
Urethane is an adhesive used to bond a windshield to the vehicle. Cure time means the period the adhesive needs to develop its required strength. Safe drive-away time means the earliest time your technician says you may drive after installation. The adhesive used and the conditions affect that instruction. Plan your departure around the stated time, and discuss any directions about tape, washing or door use before leaving.
Camera checks and handover
ADAS means advanced driver assistance systems that use cameras or sensors to support driving functions. Calibration means adjusting their alignment to the vehicle maker's specifications. Your technician checks whether the windshield job requires calibration and explains the procedure. Handover means reviewing the completed work and your next steps together. Ask about anything you don't understand in the driving or care instructions. For a closer look at the separate stages, see how long windshield replacement takes.
